HiFiMan TWS600 Box & Kit:
In my case, the packaging was two-layer. Outside – a protective cardboard shell measuring 114 x 176 x 75 mm with an information sticker in Russian about the importer and shipping factory HIFIMAN stickers. Under it is a colorful factory box measuring 100 x 160 x 58 mm and a warranty card for the Russian Federation.
The kit is balanced – there is nothing superfluous and everything that is needed for convenient use is available:
- Case for storing and charging headphones;
- A set of eight pairs of extra silicone ear pads;
- 55 cm USB Type-C cable
The main thing is not to forget to remove the bag with ear pads and the USB cable from under the foam box before throwing the box.
Appearance and design features
Today, the TWS-headphone market is saturated with models in completely different cases and very peculiar design solutions. Against this background, the HIFIMAN TWS 600 look unusual.
The unusual implementation of a thickened part with a decorative highlighted insert with a button looks like some kind of alien artifact.
Especially paired with an egg-shaped case.
Headphones automatically get charged when placed in it. Seats are magnetized, which is convenient.
The design of the headphones themselves looks quite voluminous, which is primarily due to the need to fit the batteries inside.
According to the announcements from the manufacturer, emitters with a special spraying of nanoparticles on the surface of the diaphragm (HIFIMAN Topology) are used for clean and detailed sound, which positively affects the detailing of high-frequency parts, rare-earth magnets for high sensitivity and a mixed-sound voice coil for deep low frequencies. Everything is at the level of the famous models RE800 and RE2000, recognized by audiophiles around the world as high-end headphones.
Despite positioning with a backlog on high-quality sound, there is no support for aptX.
How To Use HiFiMan TWS600 True Wireless Headphone?
The first visual impression of the unusual shape of the headphones does not correlate with the comfort of wearing them. The seeming bulkiness is completely leveled by a small weight and a thoughtful protrusion in the lower part. In an adult, they hold well in the auricle. No tendency to drop out was observed even with sudden head movements. But overall restrictions still exist: they are unlikely to fit children and adolescents up to 13-14, even with the smallest ear pads.
By default, when connected, the left earphone plays a leading role – it connects to the Bluetooth audio source and the right earphone to it. After switching on, they connect to each other in just a couple of seconds, which is accompanied by a voice alert. If no connection occurs within 3 minutes, the headphones will automatically turn off. If you need to use the right earphone separately, then you need to take it offline, for which you need to install it one of the case, press and hold the button for a long time until the notifications “Power off”, “Power on” and “Pairing” are heard, after which the earphone is ready for stand-alone operation and connection with BT-devices. Return to TWS mode – placing both headphones in a case and then removing the left earphone from the charge first.
Putting buttons on compact TW-earphones is not an easy task, but HIFIMAN engineers succeeded. True implementation is inconvenient. All due to the fact that the buttons are located on the side of the case and are quite tight. As a result – each finger presses the earphone deep into the ear, which leaves an unpleasant sensation and the need to correct it. They would place the buttons on the lower or upper part of the case and it would be ideal to press them with a pinch with the index finger and thumb at the same time. Functionally, the buttons perform several different functions: a single short press – play and pause in the players and answer calls, long press (2 seconds) – call the voice assistant, double short press – increase (on the right) and decrease (on the left earphone) volume, triple pressing – switching tracks forward and backward.
The set of earpads included is great. Nine options (one immediately worn on the headphones) of various shapes and sizes. Unless there is no anatomical type of foamed Comply, but no one bothers lovers to purchase them separately since there is a common hole in the hole. Ear pads differ significantly: from simple silicone domes to exotic triple Christmas trees, and, as a result, radically change the landing in the auricle and the final sound. You must definitely try all of them, and not be limited to those installed “out of the box”. Most of all I liked the most compact double Christmas trees – they hold perfectly and soundproof perfectly.
The headphone volume reserve is good – enough for a noisy environment in public transport. As a rule, 30-35% is enough in office and at home, and a little louder on the street. The sound of the TWS600 in its pure form is very peculiar. There is a noticeable predominance in the midrange and slightly stifled bass. Despite the fact that the correct bass, they can, in principle, if you slightly adjust the sound with an equalizer. In addition, the need for “warming up” the headphones is noticeable. After several days of active use, they slightly change the sound for the better, although I admit that there is a placebo effect from the owner’s addiction. If, with the help of an equalizer, slightly lower the bottoms and lower the middle, the TWS600 reveals in all its glory a detailed and pleasant sound, not inferior to wired counterparts in the same price range.
TWS600 performs well as a headset. Within the premises and in the car, you can communicate in a calm voice without removing them from your ears. On the street and in a noisy environment, it is advisable to bring the left earphone with your hand closer to your mouth, as recommended in the complete memo.
There were no delays from working wirelessly. You can brighten up time in mobile games. The radius of action is large. In specs – up to 50 m, but this is in the absence of interference and obstacles. Within residential premises up to 80 m 2 with lightweight partitions, they work stably. If on the way there are two major reinforced concrete walls, then the sound begins to interrupt, but this use case is a serious test for most Bluetooth devices.
The battery life for continuous use is about five hours at a volume lower than average. Excellent result, given the lightweight of the headphones themselves. Charges in about an hour. In a complete case, the built-in battery lasts for about four full recharges. As a result, you will have to resort to charging the case itself infrequently. A neat four-segment indicator allows you to control the degree of its charge.
The headphones themselves transmit information about the remaining battery charge via Bluetooth. As will be seen on the smartphone screen depends on the version of the installed operating system and shell. In this regard, everything is implemented conveniently.
The headphones are IPX4 certified, i.e. protected against accidental splashing. You can safely use them while jogging in light drizzle or fog, and not worry about sweat damage during sports training. But they are not intended for immersion in water.
HIFIMAN TWS600 is the first wireless model of the brand and for the first-born, it turned out to be very interesting, although not without features. Cases of unusual design in practice turned out to be quite convenient to use, and in combination with well-selected earpads from a rich complete set, they also hold well in the auricle. Paired with splash protection, this makes the TWS600 a good companion not only at home or in the office, but also during outdoor sports training. Headphones “out of the box” have a peculiar sound with pressed bass and slightly higher mid frequencies, which is not typical for mainstream models aimed at electronic music and pop music. But subjectively I can’t call such a setting “audiophile”. To balance the sound you have to work with the equalizer on your smartphone or player, and then HIFIMAN TWS600, in my opinion, will play much more naturally and interestingly. Despite the advanced sound emitters, the headphones to some extent remained clamped by the lack of support for high-resolution codecs. I’ll take the range of the model to the pluses of the model, good battery life and convenient recharging in a complete case.
A brief summary of the HIFIMAN TWS600 model can be recommended as comfortable everyday True Wireless headphones with good sound for those who are not only used to using the standard settings but love and know how to adjust the sound for themselves with software equalizers.
